A good housingA casing or box with waterproof seals designed to contain a camera or other equipment in such a way that it can be used underwater. will not flood. However, once you introduce the human element into the equation you're asking for trouble! User error means floods can happen at anytime. The vast majority of severe floods (99.9%) happen within the first ten feet of water. In fact, you would be surprised to learn how many floods happen in the freshwater soak tank!

There is no substitute for diligence, but leak detectors (audible and visual alarms built in to the housing) can help avert a tragedy at times when you are distracted. Considering their cost, relative to a new camera, they are a good investment.
